The Senior Account Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day issues, inventory, retention, and growth of assigned accounts within Optum’s Whole Health Solutions. This role supports client relationships with external payers, particularly in Transplant Solutions, ensuring high-quality service delivery and client satisfaction through proactive service management. Success requires strong leadership, collaboration with internal teams (Operations, Finance, Network, IT, Client Management), and the ability to cultivate deep client partnerships while driving growth through expanded product offerings. You will specialize in external payer customers, fostering relationships with strategic health partners using Optum product solutions, including transplant, oncology, kidney, congenital heart disease, ventricular assistive devices, and cell and gene therapy. You will oversee product operations and serve as the primary contact for external payer customers.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Revenue retention and growth, customer satisfaction, opportunity generation and relationship management
  • Experience managing up to 10-15 accounts at a time
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of required applications, operational processes, troubleshooting and problem-solving tactics and tools 
  • Establish, develop and continuously maintain strong client relationships through acting as trusted consultant, responding promptly to client issues towards resolution, and providing client education on product, processes, and best practices 
  • Act as the primary contact and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on assigned accounts, both internally and externally 
  • Maintain responsibility for client reporting and research related to issue resolution and escalations   
  • Facilitate business reviews and engagements with clients to ensure strong program adoption 
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all (proactive/reactive) client engagement activities
  • Actively work to proactively engage clients with a goal of maintaining a high retention rate greater than 95% 
  • Effectively keeps others adequately informed by presenting information to everyone involved 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions 
  • Works closely with Sales, Client Management, Product, and Leadership teams to cultivate strong client relationships and work to grow existing account(s)
  • Ability to understand data, and analyze to produce outcomes and insights 
  • Experience with the creation and presentation of PowerPoint materials; ability to modify presentation decks specific to client by client

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 5+ years of experience/demonstrated understanding of key healthcare market segments and associated KPIs 
  • 3+ years of experience/demonstrated ability to develop and foster long-term customer partnerships 
  • 3+ years of experience/demonstrated ability to collaborate across all facets of organization to meet customer satisfaction goals and objectives 
  • 3+ years of experience in client service positions and/or project management with client contact
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience 
  • Experience in healthcare, medical insurance or billing and coding  

Soft Skills:

  • High level of commitment, energy, drive, initiative, creativity and enthusiasm  
  • Ability to multi-task and work with limited direction while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment  
  • Basic project management skills, including leading teams and working collaboratively 
  • Deep knowledge of supported product and systems – act as Subject Matter Expert  
  • Strong consultative service, client care, and/or account management background  
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication, listening and consultative skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills  
  • Strong decision-making skills 
  • Broad understanding of products / services and broader market / healthcare trends 
  • Ability to solve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analyses and manage problem to solution 
  • Ability to create deep relationships with operations and other internal departments to ensure product savings are realized 
  • Ability to influence others and negotiate towards best outcomes 
  • Acts as a resource for others with less experience

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
