 The Senior Director, HRSN Engagement, Tracking, and Insights leads alignment of initiatives and programs addressing individual health-related social needs and community social determinants of health (SDoH) across UnitedHealthcare lines of business. As the title suggests, this role leads and synergizes three verticals, that together expand the reach and demonstrate the impact that addressing members’ health related social needs has on UHC business priorities – including driving a positive member experience, removing barriers to care, and improving enrollment, retention and giving visibility into government benefit programs.  This team manages member engagement initiatives, vendors, data systems, and analytic teams.

 This role will be responsible for guiding consistency in core principles and capabilities in social care programs across the enterprise, while at the same time leveraging variation to identify novel scalable solutions and generate the evidence of their impact on our business and member’s health. This role reports to the Vice President, Social Drivers of Health and Community Impact, and manages a team of thirteen, with additional capital-funded contractors.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. 

The incumbent is responsible for the strategic alignment of the verticals. Across each, the incumbent is expected to demonstrate the following:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leadership
    • Provide leadership and expectations for their hierarchy 
    • Build and sustain SDOH-CI’s culture within the team, including engagement, inclusion, and employee growth and development
    • At times, represent the SDOH-CI to the wider UHC organization to help other leaders understand how to better integrate HRSN screening to achieve diverse business KPIs
    • Create and execute HRSN data governance operating model, including data sharing vision and processes across and beyond the organization 
    • Collaborate with clinical, HCE, and IT on data capabilities development 
  • Strategy
    • Maintain awareness of social care programs across C&S, E&I, and M&R markets
    • Drive HRSN screening strategy across C&S, E&I, IFP and M&R markets
    • Track and optimize the impact of baseline HRSN screening/referral during inbound member calls, post-assessment follow up, and during enrollment/recertification efforts
    • Design and implement proactive HRSN screening/referral pilots, providing regular data reporting and impact evaluations
    • Coordinate with Community & State (C&S) national, regional, and state leadership to drive adoption of new HRSN screening-referral approaches
    • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the C&S growth team for responses to state Requests for Proposals
    • Measure impact of social care programs on clinical outcomes, utilization and cost trends, and member health
    • Partner with Clinical and Quality Strategy teams across UHC lines of business to integrate SDoH activities and insights
    • Prioritize Data Strategy execution based on business opportunity & readiness
    • Drive new opportunities to increase and measure IOI and revenue
    • Improve data effectiveness, availability, and usability to enable its use as a strategic asset
  • Operations
    • Drive operational efficiency, cost accounting, and standards around data, automation, & scalability
    • Deliver on-demand data and operational insights to drive better awareness, utilization, and process efficiency around HRSN data and its intersection with clinical, quality, retention, and spend data
    • Employ standard operational best practices to data ecosystems and processes
    • Expand bi-rectional data sharing with key provider and/or provider-enablement tools (e.g., EHRs)
    • Manage vendor and contractors effectively and efficiently 
    • Scope and manage any relevant capital requests, expenditure, and reporting

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years health industry experience
  • 3+ years process development, tracking, and planning
  • 2+ years leadership/management experience including managing direct reports
  • 3+ years social determinants of health or population health experience
  • Experience with Medicaid
  • Proven experience fostering new relationships and influence across a matrixed organization
  • Documented experience solving strategic business problems and organizational challenges
  • Proven ability to assess stakeholder needs and obtain buy-in
  • Proven ability to find win-win opportunities and synergies across groups that can be leveraged
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and action orientation
  • Proven ability to work well with ambiguity and create new initiatives
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment and as a part of a collaborative team
  • Proven synthesize large amount of information and consolidation recommendations of actions regarding next steps

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MPH, MPP, clinical degree/experience
  • Solid relationships across UHC, prior C&S or E&I experience 
  • Experience working with capital team
  • Experience managing database, cloud, and ETL processes
  • Experience with financial management including budgeting and justifying investments through return on investment.
  • Experience owning data and/or managing teams who own/manage data and processes
  • Experience with driving growth or member experience

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
