As Actuarial Director, you will be responsible for provider actuarial and analytics leadership in Optum’s analytic services organization. Specifically, this includes subject matter expertise in the areas of value-based care, population health and financial risk arrangements, and working alongside colleagues with various professional backgrounds and areas of expertise. The role will include client engagement management and leadership, as well as sales participation.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide management and peer review work completed by actuarial and analytics team; ensure high quality and effective client deliverables
• Mentor and develop team of consulting actuaries and analytics consultants
• Oversee the development and implementation of actuarial and analytics models, inclusive of IBNR, trend analysis, and projecting financial outcomes
• Prepare succinct and actionable deliverable content, present results to clients
• Leverage Optum’s industry leading data assets to develop and use benchmarks for client comparisons
• Design and run complex data programs in SAS and SQL
• Collaborate with an inter-disciplinary team to develop client outcomes in a value-based care environment
• Provide direction for the development of financial modeling methodologies and assumptions used in payer-provider risk-sharing arrangements
• Lead and cultivate client relationships and communicate analytical findings to clients.
• Drive business development and growth with prospective clients
• Develop new and innovative solutions

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 8+ years of Actuarial experience in healthcare field
• 3+ years of consulting experience
• ASA or FSA credential 
• Experience and credibility interacting with executives
• Experience in quantifying ROI and outcomes of care management programs
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
• Advanced proficiency using SQL and/or SAS
• Intellectual curiosity and drive to serve clients

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in large file transfers and/or manipulations
• Experience working with limited datasets and assessing data quality 
• Experience developing predictive analytics, clustering, etc.
• Experience with Tableau and/or PowerBI

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
