The Client Development Director works in tandem with the Sales VP(s) in the development, implementation, ongoing enhancement and evolution of the regional sales business plan and strategy.  Directs the activities associated with executing on the strategy (“working the plan”).   In addition, in conjunction with the VP, helps to favorably position UnitedHealthcare by supporting a compelling value proposition that clearly articulates points of differentiation to consultants and prospects.

 

This position plays an instrumental role in achieving membership goals through the development of prospect and consultant relationships and by positioning UnitedHealthcare as a known and valued business partner.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of annual regional sales planning
  • Research and understand market opportunities
  • Create and direct market research analysis including competitor and customer databases, product and market segment research, customer research & prospecting, prospect’s incumbent relationships, acquisition targeting, and resource library
  • In collaboration with Sales Vice President, develop and execute strategies to drive sales results (e.g, regional goals/objectives, communication campaigns)
  • Develop systems to analyze and track all data and findings
  • Proactively develop and maximize prospect and consultant relationships
  • Identify consulting group leaders, critical contacts, practice politics
  • Strategize ways to build relationships in the client and consulting community
  • Gather intelligence, data and research to effectively identify viable prospects and competitor positioning
  • Create effective and meaningful communications
  • Set up webinars and briefings related to UHG’s products and capabilities; identify opportunities to capitalize on these engagements to optimize relationship-building
  • Attend prospecting meetings, provide expertise and input in to UHG’s tools and resources 
  • Document all prospect communication and engagement activities in Merit
  • Proactive proposal development
  • Identify top 3-5 prospects and create a proactive RFP reflecting potential cost savings, product enhancements and emphasizing UHG’s competitive advantages
  • Independently navigate the sales process
  • Shepherd RFP’s through the organization including involving appropriate parties, encouraging support for custom or creative solutions where appropriate, advocating for optimal product and pricing, and ensuring quality of responses, reviewing Network Analysis results and working to resolve any identified issues
  • Develop Cover Letter and/or Executive Summary for the RFP response
  • Maintain pipeline and client info in Merit
  • Prepare SVP and internal partners for finalist meetings including researching and cascading information on the client, getting presentation materials together, identifying subject matter expert participants, and confirmation of scheduling.
  • Gathering data on follow up questions and provide information to consultants and clients following finalist presentations.
  • Act as backup for Sales VPs when not available
  • Answer questions from clients, prospects, and consultants
  • Be knowledgeable about the status of issues related to potential customers
  • Seek quick resolution and answers
  • Collaborate with internal business partners to improve operational efficiency and ensure best practices
  • Develop collegial relationships with internal partners to maximize productivity of resources, improve quality of output, and evolve tools and products to ensure that best in class is delivered to the marketplace

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of business experience
  • 5+ years of experience in health care sales support
  • 3+ years of project management experience
  • Business acumen experience and exceptional understanding of sales management process
  • History of quickly building relationships, gaining credibility and partnering with business leaders
  • Proven excellent listening and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proven excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Proven ability to achieve results in a complex, matrixed environment through influencing and leadership
  • Proven ability to organize, manage, and control multiple projects concurrently and prioritize demands
  • Proven ability to synthesize information from multiple sources

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
