The Optum Serve RN provides clinically competent delivery of quality medical care services required during Optum Serve operations. The RN is responsible for providing clinically competent medical care services, within their scope of practice. The RN working at any Optum Serve site is responsible for safe patient care and ensuring adherence to all Optum Serve Policies and Procedures.

All OptumServe on-site staff and contractors must be fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities:

This role is patient facing and can require working in a non-traditional clinical setting. It is customer-facing with high expectations for operational excellence, particularly for maintaining strict infection prevention and control practices. Optum Serve sites may be located inside or outside. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. Hours may vary based on location, patient volume, and business needs. This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills, in addition to patience and a high-level of customer service to all patients and fellow staff
  • Always acts professionally with minimal supervision as a representative of Optum Serve
  • Possesses strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, solve moderately complex problems while working both independently and collaboratively with others
  • Maintains compliance with Optum Serve and Federal, State, and Local regulatory, contractual, and organizational guidelines including HIPAA as outlined in training and policies/procedures, quality assurance and improvement processes
  • Organizes workload, sets priorities, completes assignments in a timely manner and utilizes resources appropriately while complying with organizational standards
  • Dedicated to building rapport with team members, internal and external customers, and management team by demonstrating a strong customer service orientation and a continuous positive image of Optum Serve
  • Is punctual for work attendance and abide by work schedule

    
Supervisory Event Operation Administration (EOA) Functions May Include:

  • Supervises the flow of the site and ensures individuals working at the site are working in compliance with all applicable State wage, hour, and labor laws
  • Ensuring individuals are provided on-duty rest breaks per applicable state laws
  • Ensuring individuals are provided at least a 30-minute off-the-clock meal period
  • Ensuring all individuals report all time worked, contractors will report through their respective agency’s timekeeping or time-tracking system
  • Completes all assigned required clinical training provided, on time and completes competency/proficiency examination, as scheduled  
  • Works with Optum Serve Provider Education representatives to ensure proper data reporting as needed and attends clinical meetings when directed

Vaccine Supervisor Functions:

  • Oversee proper receipt and storage of vaccine deliveries or transport
  • Documenting vaccine inventory information
  • Setting up temperature monitoring devices
  • Checking and recording minimum/maximum temperatures
  • Reviewing and analyzing temperature data as needed for any shifts in temperature trends
  • Responding to temperature excursions (out-of-range temperatures)
  • Maintaining all documentation, such as inventory and temperature logs
  • Organizing vaccine-related training and ensuring staff completion of training
  • Monitoring operation of vaccine storage equipment and systems

Outpatient/Field Operations:

  • Provides support to providers and other clinical/nonclinical staff members
  • Directs individual patient care activities and coordination of other staff members as required and within appropriate scope of practice
  • Performs any role at the site when needed or any other duties as directed by the clinical lead or Optum Leadership as able based on scope of licensure
  • Practices within mandated scope of licensure/certification in the state of the operation/event
  • Provides documentation of fit testing or be fit tested for N95 respirator depending on the scope of operations
  • Applies proper patient identification practice and HIPPA compliance
  • Abides by an enforces the policy and procedures for infection control, quality assurance, and lab protocols  
  • Ensures safe and proper handling, storage, and administration of vaccines and medications
  • Adheres to manufacturer guidelines with little to no waste of vaccine and medications
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all vaccination/medication activities
  • Provides and ensure Patient Education provided is current and accurate
  • Works directly with the Providers and leadership with any identified issues
  • Provides support in medical response to patients who have medical needs while waiting for emergency response team
  • Dispenses medications based on scope of practice
  • Assists with other duties of the site including administrative work during downtime
  • Assists in the set up and take down of the site, potential of moving supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across varying terrains

Emergency Response:

  • Responsible for assessment and treatment of patient’s emergent needs in a nontraditional setting
  • Attunes assessment and critical thinking skills to ensure appropriate care can be delivered safely and within the scope of capabilities of the available resources and supplies
  • Stabilizes injured and critical persons until Emergency Medical Services can arrive on scene
  • Provides emergency medical are of simple and multiple system trauma to include controlling hemorrhage, bandaging wounds, stabilizing injured extremities, etc.
  • Administers  medications and treatments via oral, parenteral, and intravenously
  • Skilled in first aid and emergency response
  • Skilled at safely establishing, preparing, administering, maintaining and monitoring intravenous lines/infusions/medication
  • Proficient in providing care and treatments to adults and pediatrics patients
  • Follows standing orders as applicable

Mental Demands: Reading, writing, attention to detail, confidentiality, problem-solving, ad hoc decision-making skills, math skills, reasoning skills, oral communication, written communication, customer contact, multiple concurrent tasks, stress management skills, interpersonal skills

Physical Demands: Bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs., handling (holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand or hands), fingering (picking, pinching, fine manipulation), sitting, standing for long periods of time, and walking. Seeing and hearing alarms and settings during and after business hours and responding according to training and procedures. Setting and resetting devices with small knobs and handles. Working at outdoor sites that have the potential of exposure to extreme weather conditions

Travel Demands: Travelers should be prepared to attend any type of event with as little as a 24 hours’ notice.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid and unrestricted professional RN license and the ability to acquire additional state licenses upon request
  • Active CPR/BLS certification
  • Active first aid certification for emergency response events
  • Active ACLS certification for emergency response events
  • Experience working on a solutions-based team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent social and therapeutic communications skills
  • Solid knowledge of infection prevention and control measures
  • Versed in conducting assessments on wide variety of acute/chronic conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills are required
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required
  • Solid IV and assessment skills
  • Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid and unrestricted RN compact license
  • TNCC and ENPC for RNs Emergency Response Events
  • 2+ years of clinical experience in a health care delivery system
  • Experience in Emergency Care or field-based emergency response operations
  • Experience in waived lab testing and processing

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $28.27 to $50.48 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
