As a member of the UnitedHealth Group Executive Communications team, you will help support a variety of C-suite leaders advance the company’s narrative in a consistent and compelling way for a broad range of audiences. You will help prepare and support our leaders as they engage with a diverse set of stakeholders ranging from employees, patients and customers to policymakers, investors, media and NGOs.

 

This position requires a strategic thinker and seasoned writer, with experience supporting global leaders across a matrixed organization. Ideal candidates must be highly motivated, insatiably curious, resourceful and hungry to learn. Candidates must have uncompromising standards for quality and exceptional writing skills. There is a restlessness to our culture that requires comfort in ambiguity. Business and financial acumen are a must. Experience in the health care industry is preferred.

 

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop messaging for internal and external executive engagements, including writing speeches, video scripts, social posts and other written communications to employees and external stakeholders
  • Support live and virtual events such as employee meetings, site visits and round tables as well as industry conferences, podcasts, media interviews and video productions
  • Work alongside External Affairs, People Team, Marketing, Legal and other corporate functions to determine appropriate external and internal speaking appearances
  • Develop communications content tailored to the specific audience. Adapt writing style / tone to meet the needs of the specific executive, message, audience and channel
  • Lead the work by doing – this position will not only direct others. He or she will be expected to write and edit in a fast-paced environment

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or speechwriting
  • 5+ years of speechwriting for senior government or C-suite executives at a Fortune 100 company
  • Experience working with C-suite executives
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, a sharp intellect, broad worldview and a confident executive presence that inspires trust
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to different voices and presentation styles that align with a broad range of executive and diverse audiences
  • Critical thinker with a demonstrated ability to understand and communicate complex business, legal, regulatory, national policy and technical issues clearly and accurately
  • Experience in developing content tailored to specific audiences and channels (digital, print, video, social, verbal)
  • Experience managing social media profiles for executives and creating content that drives engagement
  • Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail in a deadline-driven environment
  • Experience guiding writers, creative and designers in support of visual storytelling
  • Ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity

      

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in building and executing initiatives in a corporate setting (or in consultation with corporations)
  • Working in, or consulting with, a complex, sophisticated, highly matrixed, performance-oriented global business
  • Solid knowledge of the health care industry, policy environment, and internal and external trends that impact the business and our leadership
  • Knowledge and / or use of Associated Press Stylebook

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
