Exception Management is looking for talented individuals with ambition, innovation, and a passion for solving problems in new and better ways. In this role, you will be responsible for research, documentation, onboarding, and collaboration with stakeholders to create an end-to-end process to support new and exciting products. 

Exception Management Consultants function as a liaison between requestors in Sales/Account Management and operational subject matter experts across the enterprise, supporting complex non-standard administrative and performance guarantee requests. Consultants also support and drive Spotlight Case discovery, analysis, and requests in support of RFPs for new and renewing clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support discovery and analysis of Request for Proposals (RFP) for new and renewing clients
  • Review requests for complex non-standard administrative items, driving solutions to meet the customer needs
  • Provide consultative support to internal customers to understand issues, explore alternatives, and ensure functional areas can operationally support requirements
  • Facilitate meetings with multiple levels of leadership to discuss the feasibility of client requirements
  • Monitor and maintain multiple timelines/requests to meet closure requirements of active RFPs and renewal activity
  • Manage Watch List process:
    • Monitor all approved customer requests to determine final sold status with Sales
    • Restate implementation steps outlined in final disposition to the account team and add/update client to Master Global Restrictions List (MGRL)
    • Maintain MGRL on SharePoint for access by all areas of the organization to ensure compliance with customer restrictions
  • Effectively and clearly communicate expectations and outcomes with members of Account Management, Sales, Sr. Leadership, and Implementation via written correspondence or verbally
  • Develop and maintain internal documentation for standards vs non-standard exceptions:
    • Engage and communicate process changes to stakeholders and leadership
  • Perform Tollgate Process risk assessments for new/existing global business operations and services to ensure compliance with customer restrictions. Assign Restriction Level and identify SMEs accountable for reviewing the new global service in the Exception Management process:
    • Research, assess and respond to all Question/Issue intake form submissions related to global inquires
    • Provide guidance around Compliance/Regulatory requirements and consult with assigned UHC GGO E&I and M&R legal/IT representatives as necessary
    • Deliver non-negotiable instructions to promote adherence to UHC GGO’s Master Global Restrictions List
    • Evaluate Provider and 3rd party vendor contracts/MSAs/SOWs for delegated work and issue guidance for segregating and excluding restricted clients from global sourcing
    • Engage Medicare Offshore Approval Committee (MOAC) on all M&R Group Retiree work to ensure the appropriate CMS attestations are filed

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 10+ years of experience working within the E&I, Group Retiree and/or Specialty Benefits line of business (e.g., Enrollment, Client Services, Customer Care, Implementation, Case Installation, etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience working with healthcare industry Request for Proposals (RFPs) and/or Request for Information (RFI) 
  • 5+ years of experience with USP, UNET and/or FACETS processing Platform 
  • 5+ years of experience with facilitating and guiding meetings with stakeholders to an agreeable solution 
  • 5+ years of experience managing multiple projects and deliverables in a fast-paced, agile environment
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Presently employed within UHC Operations & Experience 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Line of business cross-business experience (i.e., UHC and Optum)

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills and focus on developing solutions

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
