Exception Management supports Employer & Individual (E&I), Medicare & Retirement (M&R), and Specialty Benefits, and are looking for talented individuals with ambition, agility, innovation, and the ability to work in a fast paced, highly matrixed environment. 

Exception Management Consultants function as a liaison between requesters in Sales/Account Management and operational subject matter experts across the E&I, including Surest, UHC and Optum, supporting complex non-standard administrative and performance guarantee requests. Sr. Consultants also support and drive high visibility Spotlight Case discovery, analysis, and requests in support of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for new and renewing clients, along with day-to-day operations, mentoring, training, and all other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support discovery and analysis of Request for Proposals (RFP) for new and renewing clients in E&I
  • Cross training for non-Surest E&I products/customers to support overall team volumes
  • Review requests for high visibility complex non-standard administrative and performance guarantee items, driving collaborative and consultative solutions to meet the customer needs
  • Provide consultative support to internal customers to understand issues, explore alternatives, and ensure functional areas can operationally support requirements
  • Facilitate meetings with multiple levels of leadership to discuss the feasibility of client requirements 
  • Monitor and maintain high volume timelines/requests to meet closure requirements of active RFPs and renewal activity
  •  Effectively and clearly communicate expectations and outcomes with members of Account Management, Sales, Sr. Leadership, and Implementation via written correspondence or verbally, following Exception Management process requirements
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance Exception Management Process through project management and organizational shifts.  Develop and maintain internal documentation for standards vs non-standard exceptions 
  • Engage and communicate process changes to stakeholders and leadership
  • Lead team projects for process enhancement and improvements 
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME): Develop deep expertise of the processes and products within Exception Management, becoming the primary resource for complex inquiries and guidance. Provide insights and solutions to internal teams and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Continuous Learning and Knowledge Sharing: Actively engage in ongoing learning to stay updated with the latest industry trends, product updates, and process improvements. Share acquired knowledge with team members through training sessions, documentation, and mentorship, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 3+ years of experience working within the Employer & Individual Line of Business (e.g., Enrollment, Client Services, Customer Care, Implementation, Case Installation, etc.)
  • 2+ years of proven experience managing high volume projects and deliverables in a fast-paced, agile environment
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with UNET, NICE and/or USP processing Platform 
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word
  • Presently employed within UHC Operations & Experience 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with request for proposals (RFPs) 
  • Line of business cross-business experience (i.e., UHC and Optum)
  • Surest process and/or proposal knowledge 
  • Understanding UnitedHealthcare’s AI initiatives and the capability to incorporate these tools into different processes and workflows
  • Demonstrated experience with facilitating and guiding meetings with stakeholders to an agreeable solution

  • Ability to learn internal technology tools and systems
  • Ability to navigate a complex organization to accomplish customer satisfaction

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
