CLINICAL ACTIVITIES
To utilize specialized knowledge of surgical techniques and instrumentation processing in patient care as
evidenced by:
* Demonstrates and adheres to principles of aseptic techniques.
* Knowledgeable of all basic setups for surgical procedures and demonstrates expertise in one specialized
area.
* Demonstrates the ability to function in all services.
* Demonstrates knowledge regarding age specific patient care needs.
To perform the tasks of the “scrub” role as evidenced by:
* Scrubs, gowns and gloves members of surgical team following aseptic technique.
* Assists in setup of operating room with all necessary equipment and supplies.
* Assists with the preparation, transportation and monitoring of patients.
* Arranges instruments according to routine for given procedure.
* Handles instruments correctly and checks for cleanliness and proper working conditions.
* Maintains sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
* Performs room cleanup following procedures and general housekeeping duties.
* Provides assistance in emergency situations as directed.
* Functions in the role of second assistant following successful skills demonstration.
* Decontaminates and prepares all equipment, instruments.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
* Demonstrates Kelsey-Seybold Mission and Values and Universal Truths.
* Maintains confidentiality on matters to which they are privileged.
EMPLOYMENT MANAGEMENT
Demonstrates ability to orient and coach staff as evidenced by:
* Explains policies, procedures, and methods to staff that do not understand.
* Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
* Functions as a preceptor for new employees. Fills out appropriate documentation and maintains
communication regarding employee’s progress with the educator and coordinator
RESOURCE AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
Ensures the proper use of resources as evidenced by:
* Uses supplies based on preference cards to avoid waste. Assists in preference card updates.
* Assists in monitoring supplies for assigned service and reports to the appropriate person when supplies
are low.
* Participates in inventory as assigned by leadership
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
Complies with local, State and Federal rules and regulations and accreditation guidelines as evidenced by:
* 100% of regulatory concerns or unusual occurrences are reported to supervisor nurse within 24 hours of
occurrence.
* Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
SAFETY
Maintains patient area in safe condition as indicated by cleared hallways, secured electrical wiring, and
removal/reporting of broken equipment promptly. Adheres to all facility safety regulations and guidelines
regarding client safety as evidenced by:
* Identifies, corrects and reports unsafe conditions immediately.
* Monitors client safety and identifies, corrects, and protects client from harmful/unsafe conditions.
* Attends meetings and participates in assigned education as directed by Supervisor/Manager as evidenced
by attendance record, participates in facility emergency preparedness plan
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
Actively participates as evidenced by:
* Verbalizes understanding of Center’s Quality improvement process.
* Completes assigned monitors in a timely and accurate manner
* Provides two in-services to OR staff each year.
* Completes assigned monitors in a timely and accurate manner.
* Participates in Quality/Process improvement projects.
– High school education or equivalent experience.
Education A. Graduate from a surgical technology
program which is CAAHEP or ABHES
accredited.

2. Experience A. Three years surgical tech experience B. Ambulatory Surgery Center or hospital
experience.
3. Licenses A. BLS B. CST
4. Special Skills A. Mastery of advanced Surgical Tech skills and
extensive knowledge of at least one specialty
service.
