This senior leader will manage and grow specific, named enterprise clients through innovative, influential leadership, driving cross Optum collaboration to maximize value for our clients and helping to develop and drive new product and market opportunities.  By harnessing the power of the enterprise capabilities and assets, the growth team has unparalleled market protentional.  This role is responsible for growth across a facet of Optum’s key enterprise account portfolio in the employer and government markets. 
 
This growth leader will lead a team of seasoned client executives and will be fully accountable to the Chief Growth Officer of Optum with dotted line responsibility to Optum Health, Optum Insight and Optum Rx business segment growth leaders to meet mutually agreed upon growth and retention goals for key Enterprise clients. This leadership role ensures alignment and coordination of Enterprise capabilities to provide white glove, proactive and visionary partnership to key enterprise clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership responsibilities

  • Oversees a team of 5-7 experienced business development professionals and significant book of business representing large, revenue-driving enterprise clients.   
  • Fosters teamwork and a positive work environment for a geographically distributed team, reinforcing a culture of growth, innovation and client-centricity while providing excellent leadership to engage, develop and retain key talent and attract top new talent.
  • Drives an aggressive enterprise growth and retention strategy that leverages Optum’s diverse capabilities to address client needs and market trends, ensuring solid pipeline growth and close rates to meet and exceed business objectives for named key enterprise clients.
  • Leverages a solid understanding of evolving client needs and market trends to identify opportunities to expand Optum solutions to proactively address industry needs. Works closely with Optum executive leadership to advise on market dynamics. 
  • Leads market activities to help establish visibility of the Optum brand in the marketplace, including representation at industry forums and assistance in formulating and positioning future innovative offerings.
  • Enforces the appropriate utilization of sale support systems, tools and resources to track client growth and performance activity. 

Internal Client Responsibilities

  • Works effectively within the matrix and builds solid, collaborative relationships while promoting trust and communication across the enterprise.
  • Develops close partnership with Optum Insight, Optum Health, Optum Rx and Optum Financial business unit client management and sales leaders to cohesively understand and advance client strategy.
  • Influences individuals at all levels of the organization; champions client interests and needs internally and collaborates in the development of value proposition materials.
  • Establishes and maintains an intimate understanding of the client’s strategy as well as the overall performance and value of Optum’s capabilities suite to identify opportunities for innovation.

External Client responsibilities

  • Cultivates and deepens C-suite and executive relationships with key, complex clients and prospects to build sustainable, long-term partnership.
  • Monitors the marketplace to identify trends, advances and shifts in customer, channel and competitor strategies; leverages these insights to maintain status with clients as a visionary partner and leadership position in the market.
  • Acts as a champion for the client experience and actively works to improve client satisfaction, driving improved Net Promoter Scores (NPS®)
  • Drives pipeline and forecast disciplines as well as other sales management responsibilities
  • Pursues new and leverage existing and referral relationships, industry events, and qualified leads to drive growth and profitability.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of overall experience serving complex clients
  • 8+ years of experience leading and developing cross functional teams
  • 8+ years of healthcare and sales management experience
  • Experiencing selling to fortune 100 clients
  • Experience selling to employer and government clients
  • Proven ability to effectively navigate in a highly complex, matrixed environment with a high level of collaboration 
  • Ability to travel nationally up to 50%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or advanced degree (Ex. MBA, MHA)
  • Experience selling to healthcare organizations
  • Experience in consultative sales

The salary range for this role is $191,800 to $364,800 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
