The Associate Care Consultant will be responsible for managing the book of business of clients using the UMR external advocacy partnership that purchase medical management products (utilization management, some case management or other UMR programs). In this role you will serve as a SME, research and respond to client claims issues and escalations.
This position is full-time, Monday – Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.
You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain a large book of business of customers who have purchased one or more care management products and serves as a subject matter expert for all Care Management related products and services and has overall ownership and accountability for the implementation and execution of Care management programs
- Support the UMR External Advocacy Vendor partnership
- Engages in the implementation process for new customers
- Research any and all issues that a customer may have regarding prior authorizations, denials, and appeals. Along with assisting in making appropriate referrals to case management and maternity management
- Educates and assists customers and account management on UMR care management products
- Participation in meetings, identifying Care Management needs in existing clients, renewal planning and increasing customer participation/engagement
- Presents Care Management related reporting, offering analytical support and strategic direction based on population, client targets, plan performance, and trend analysis, as needed
- Build and sustain positive relationships with internal and external partners through direct and indirect communication
- Communicate information in a clear, well-organized, and professional manner

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare insurance preferably in utilization management
- 2+ years of experience working directly with customers and/or providers in a health care setting
- Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Word (create / edit docs), Microsoft Excel (create / edit spreadsheets), and Microsoft Outlook (email / calendar)
- Ability to work an 8-hour shift between 8:00am – 5:00pm including the flexibility to work occasional overtime per business need
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in utilization management
- Currently employed at UMR or solid knowledge of UMR
Soft Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge and work expertise with managed care, and group health delivery systems
- Ability to learn internal technology tools/systems
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to navigate a complex organization to accomplish customer satisfaction
- Solid team player
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to be a self-starter
- Ability to prioritize and complete assigned tasks with limited direction and supervision

The salary range for this role is $28.61 to $56.06 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
