Exception Management supports Employer & Individual (E&I), Surest, Medicare & Retirement (M&R) and Specialty Benefits are looking for talented individuals with ambition, agility, innovation and the ability to work in a fast paced, highly matrixed environment.
The Exception Management Consultants function as a liaison between requesters in Sales/Account Management and operational subject matter experts across the UHC and Optum, supporting complex non-standard administrative and performance guarantee requests. Additionally, this role collaborates with operational stakeholders to maintain and update the content within the administrative options portal (AOP).

Primary Responsibilities:
- Review requests for non-standard administrative and performance guarantee items, driving collaborative and consultative solutions to meet the customer needs
- Support in conjunction with peers the discovery and analysis of Request for Proposals (RFP) for new and renewing clients in E&I
- Provide consultative support to internal customers to understand issues, explore alternatives, and ensure functional areas can operationally support requirements
- Facilitate meetings with multiple levels of leadership to discuss the feasibility of client requirements
- Monitor and maintain high volume timelines/requests to meet closure requirements of active RFPs and renewal activity
- Cross training for Surest, Specialty Benefits and M&R to support overall team volumes
- Effectively and clearly communicate expectations and outcomes with members of Account Management, Sales, Sr. Leadership, and Implementation via written correspondence or verbally, following Exception Management process requirements
- Collaborate with operational stakeholders to regularly update the Administrative Options Portal (AOP) documentation and monitor requests for changes
- Engage with stakeholders to streamline language and leverage AI for enhanced readability

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
- 2+ years of experience working within the Employer & Individual Line of Business
- 2+ years of experience in Client Management, Implementation, Benefit Implementation, and/or Sales
- 2 + years of experience with UNET, NICE and/or USP processing Platform
- 2 + years of experience with facilitating and guiding meetings with stakeholders to obtain documentation requirements
- 2+ years of experience with facilitating and guiding meetings with stakeholders to an agreeable solution
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Presently employed within UHC Operations & Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with request for proposals (RFPs)
- Experience with SharePoint, Power Automate and/or PowerApp
- Line of business cross-business experience (i.e., UHC and Optum)
- Understanding UnitedHealthcare’s AI initiatives and the capability to incorporate these tools into different processes and workflows
Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills and focus on developing solutions

The salary range for this role is $59,500 to $116,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
