The Sr. Strategic Account Executive (SAE) is an experienced account executive that has demonstrated knowledge of pharmacy benefit management activities including relationship building, client contracts/negotiations, reporting, and finance. This individual must have exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills to effectively manage all aspects of the client relationship. The SAE is responsible for supporting the client’s sales and growth goals which includes marketing campaigns, new products and integrated Optum programs.
The SAE will work with cross functional partners to develop and execute strategy to support client retention goals, audits, and innovation. This individual will also be responsible for coaching and mentoring team members and leading teams, indirectly. The SAE will manage financial guarantees, lead data analytic efforts, and client renewal efforts.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Manages assigned accounts with a focus on client trend management and strategic plan development / execution, while cultivating multi-level client relationships and leading teams, indirectly (no direct reports)
- Manages client contract renewal activities with the primary goals of retaining client, obtaining multiple year agreements, and maintaining or improving profitability
- Monitors and manages financial guarantees and reconciliations including financial audit activity
- Accountable for understanding the primary business objectives of the client, demonstrating mastery level understanding of industry drivers, trends, and business acumen, developing and managing shared goals and demonstrating program value to the client
- Identifies upsell opportunities and drives to closure
- Develops multi-level relationships with client (user-level, department head level, C-Suite and key influencer relationships), marketplace, and consultant/brokers
- Works with other account team members on client renewals and renegotiating contracts with clients to obtain extended agreements that are profitable
- Coordinates and delivers quarterly performance reviews and capability discussions including identification of cost drivers, recommendations for cost savings opportunities, utilization and cost reports, and industry news
- Prioritizes and conducts regular on-site or telephonic client meetings as appropriate to proactively review client benefits, drug utilization and trend management strategies
- Provides training, support and direction to other team members, as necessary
- Provides regular feedback to management team regarding client metrics, client requirements and business development opportunities

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years Client relationship management and/or Account Management experience
- 2+ years of Medicare and Exchange experience
- 2+ years of PBM experience; advanced understanding of PBM industry
- Experience delivering customer quarterly business reviews or analyzing performance and communicating value to customers
- Experience cross – selling / upselling products to customers
- Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office systems
- Ability to demonstrate professionalism both with internal and external clients
- Ability to work in self – motivated environment with limited supervision
- Demonstrates leadership qualities and the ability to build and coordinate a team of professionals to accomplish a common goal/objective to deliver customer value
- Driver’s License and access to a reliable transportation
- Ability to travel (percentage of travel depends on client book)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Health Plans
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
