Compassionate Care Drives Innovation in Health Care
Innovation is part of everything we do here at UnitedHealth Group. Our teams are encouraged to solve problems in new ways that ultimately make the health system work smarter and better for our members.
For Jessica Dale, Compassion Manager at UnitedHealthcare and Optum, both part of UnitedHealth Group, innovation means improving member experience, one person, one moment at a time, using the power of compassionate care.
Keep reading for her take on what it means to lead with innovative compassion:
When someone says “innovation in health care”, compassion isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind. But for me, compassion is what drives innovation, it is the desire to do something to help others because you see a need AND you want to make a difference. The end goal of innovative compassion is not profit margins, rather improved member experiences and improved health outcomes based on a desire to make a difference in the lives of fellow human beings.
Compassion is truly my passion; I love researching new trends and studies that link compassion and neuroscience. I do my best to share and educate on the topic and try to meet the needs of others by exercising innovative compassion.
I have created short video clips to share with my team and other members of UnitedHealthcare on compassion. They bring our core value of compassion to the forefront of what we do and put it in a tangible form.
Sharing these ideas with my colleagues and seeing them come to life is literally seeing compassion implemented enterprise wide.
Jessica’s experience with innovative compassion is one of the many ways that our team members bring fresh perspectives to their roles on a daily basis. You can learn more about our value of Innovation and the other values that inspire us to reshape the future of health care here.
