Optum is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Consulting Pharmacist to join our Specialty Pharmacy team. This telephonic-based role is focused on providing high-quality clinical support and medication counseling to patients and prescribers through inbound calls. As a Consulting Pharmacist, you will play a critical role in ensuring safe, effective, and personalized medication therapy for individuals managing complex health conditions.
Must reside within an approximate 50-mile radius of: Birmingham, Alabama (hybrid schedule), Phoenix, Arizona, Jacksonville, Florida, Jeffersonville, Indiana, Flint, Michigan or Columbus, Mississippi.
The shift for this position is Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm local time, one evening per week until 7:30 pm local time and Saturday rotation (5-6 per year).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Verify the accuracy of prescriptions translated by pharmacy technicians
- Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of a patient’s drug therapy through drug utilization review, while meeting department standards for productivity and quality
- Ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations pertaining to the dispensing of controlled substances and the maintenance of required records
- Provide drug information to patients and co-workers
- Communicate and interact with members and other health care providers regarding a member’s drug therapy
- Complete other tasks and assignments as it relates to the practice of pharmacy

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Doctorate Degree of Pharmacy (PharmD)
- Current and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state(s) of Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan or Mississippi
- 1+ years of Pharmacist experience
- Ability to navigate MS Office and a Windows based environment including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Availability to train (potentially on-site) Monday – Friday during dayshift business hours for up to 4 weeks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High volume retail pharmacy experience
- Pharmacist experience in mail order (PBM setting)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $43.22 to $77.21 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
